Our junior form students have been taking an active part in different kinds of Mathematics projects and competitions. Five of our S.2 students worked as a team and took part in the “2020/21 Statistical Project Competition for Secondary School Students” organized by Hong Kong Statistical Society and co-organized by the Education Bureau. They won the Merit Award in the Junior Secondary Division with their project entitled “Density of ponds in Hong Kong”.
The winners were Chan Fei, Chan Ho Ming, Lu Chun Hin and Chan Tin Yan from 2B, and Lo Wai Lam from 2C.
While preparing for the project, the above students had to choose a topic for research, analyze the data provided by the Census and Statistics Department, present the statistics in charts and present their arguments based on their analysis. It was not an easy task for S.2 students. During their preparation for the competition, they had to do the discussion online due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it made the task even more challenging for them. We are grateful that they could finally win the award in such a big competition!
