Welcome to this year’s school magazine. Our theme, “English is a Key to a Wider World,” perfectly captures the growth, confidence, and global mindset we want every one of you to experience.
I was deeply impressed by your fluency and passion in November’s English Week video and May’s drama production, Swapped Lives. Seeing your peers shine on stage and screen showed us all the profound difference that language mastery can make. This is not an achievement meant only for a few. Every single one of you is entirely capable of achieving this same confidence and success if you simply choose to step forward and try.
Studying in an international city like Hong Kong puts you in a uniquely privileged position. You are already fluent in Cantonese and Putonghua, and by mastering English, you unlock a gateway to the entire globe. This unique trilingual edge gives you the power to communicate effortlessly with the international community.
In this digital age, AI can instantly translate words, but it can never replace your unique human charisma, empathy, and authentic connection. People crave real interaction — not algorithms. Therefore, do not fall into the trap of “lying flat” just because technology is advancing. Instead, use your language skills to stand out, share your unique voice, and build meaningful relationships worldwide.
Keep using this key to unlock a brighter, wider future. I leave you with this encouragement from Scripture to inspire your journey ahead:
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
